Magnesium SulfateMagnesium sulfate is a drug used to stop contractions when drugs like terbutaline won´t work. This is given in an IV and the patient has to be on strict bedrest - and her blood pressure monitored. Nurses will keep a close eye out for possible side-effects from the magnesium - such as magnesium toxicity. Magnesium sulfate also helps the fetus in preventing cerebral palsy.
